Terms & Conditions

1. Agreement

By accessing Helensburgh.com.au, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

The site is operated by Farming Domains (ABN 66 786 225 704) on behalf of Ian Piggott.

2. Content and accuracy

Content on this website combines local information, historical research, personal observations and third-party references. While we aim to keep information accurate and useful, content may become outdated.

You should independently verify important information before relying on it — including:

  • Tunnel, reserve and outdoor access conditions (managed sites can change; see our guides and land managers such as Helensburgh Landcare)
  • Business, temple, school and service hours
  • Events, weather, road and rail conditions
  • Phone numbers and third-party contact details

Archived announcements (for example older tunnel fence or closure notices) are kept for historical reference and may not describe current conditions. Prefer the dated callouts on current guide pages.

3. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, text, photographs and original articles on this site are owned by Ian Piggott / Farming Domains (ABN 66 786 225 704) and may not be reproduced without permission.

Historic photographs, newspaper excerpts and third-party material are attributed on the relevant page where known. Site-wide copyright is shown in the page footer.

4. Advertising

Helensburgh.com.au is supported by advertising, including:

  • Google AdSense — automated ads on selected content pages (not on About, Contact, Privacy or Terms)
  • Sidebar sponsored advertisements — paid placements labelled “Advertisement”. These are commercial placements, not editorial endorsement unless clearly stated
  • Advertise with us — local businesses may enquire about space via our contact page

We are not responsible for third-party advertisers’ websites, offers, pricing or policies. See our Privacy Policy for how advertising relates to data collection.

5. Affiliate links (GetYourGuide, Booking.com, Amazon)

We may use affiliate links to third-party products or services. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase or booking, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Currently this includes (where shown on the site):

  • GetYourGuide — search results or specific tours (for example day trips and the Helensburgh glow worm tunnel tour where listed). Links may include tracking parameters so bookings can be attributed to this site (campaign identifier: helensburgh).
  • Booking.com — accommodation search links for Helensburgh and nearby towns (for example Otford, Thirroul, Wollongong), often via Commission Junction deep links.
  • Amazon.com.au — product search links (for example day-trip gear suggestions). As an Amazon Associate we may earn from qualifying purchases.

The same commission principle applies if we add further retail or travel partners later.

Important distinctions:

  • Affiliate links are commercial relationships. They do not mean we operate the tour or hotel, set prices, or guarantee availability or safety.
  • Editorial content about history, access status, etiquette and safety remains independent of whether a commercial tour, stay or product link appears on the same page.
  • Official park fees, NPWS bookings, Wollongong City Council, Landcare as Crown land manager of Helensburgh Station Reserve, Sri Venkateswara Temple / SVT Sydney, and other government or community channels are not affiliate relationships with us unless explicitly stated.
  • On-page panels include a short disclosure; these Terms and the Privacy Policy provide the full site-wide notice. The footer also carries a one-line commission reminder.

Third-party booking and retail sites have their own terms, cancellation policies and safety practices. Read them carefully before you book or buy.

6. Safety and outdoor activities

Information about tunnels, bushwalks, lookouts, mines, reserves and heritage sites is provided for general interest. Many locations involve hazards (dark or uneven ground, water, unstable structures, remote areas, wildlife) or land-management rules.

Always obey on-site signage, local laws, landowner and land-manager rules, and current official advice. Helensburgh Station Reserve (including the Metropolitan / glow worm tunnel area) is managed by Helensburgh and District Landcare; conditions and access arrangements can change. Commercial tours, where available, do not replace your duty of care or land-manager rules for independent visitors.

You visit outdoor locations at your own risk. We are not liable for injury, loss or prosecution arising from entry to tunnels, private land, colliery areas or other sites described on this website.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of this website or reliance on its content, including any loss arising from third-party bookings or purchases made via affiliate or advertising links.

Nothing in these terms excludes rights that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law.

8. External links

This site links to external websites for reference and commercial purposes. We do not control and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.

9. Contact form and acceptable use

Do not use the contact form for spam, abuse, or unlawful content. We may ignore or block abusive submissions. Messages may be processed by Formspree and retained as described in the Privacy Policy.

10. Changes

We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the site after changes are published constitutes acceptance. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we revise them.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.

12. Contact
